Sam & Jo’s Dance Battle for Childhood Cancer

We are excited to be part of the Sam & Jo’s Battle for Kids Dance Battle to Benefit Childhood Cancer. This event will be raising money for 5 year-old Penny, who is battling medullablastoma (a brain tumor).

We love the story behind Sam & Jo’s Battling for Kids! Here’s what Sam and Jo’s mom told us about it:

Sam, now 13, began the tradition of helping a child in need when she was in Kindergarten. She had heard a friend of hers, who had a rare heart condition, was not going to be able to have a Christmas that year due to all the medical expenses their family had. With a birthday coming up, Sam decided that instead of gifts she would ask all her friends to bring a donation instead for her friend. Her simple gesture was able to raise $250 for her friend. From there her and her little sister Jo, now 10, decided together that they had so much they wanted to give instead. Every year since their birthdays are so close together, they now have a combined fundraiser birthday party. Friends are asked to bring donations instead of gifts for the event. In the past they have donated to Primary Children’s hospital, their friend Lanee Nawrocki, who was diagnosed with leukemia, Alexis Gould, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, Ella Beckstead, who was born with HLHS, Hope Ranch who provides horseback riding for children with special needs, and others.

Sam and Jo are both competitive dancers and last year wanted to combine their love for dance with their event. They decided to have a dance battle and were able to raise over $1,600 for Ella Beckstead. They are hoping to double this with their upcoming battle and hope to grow more each year and eventually start their own non-profit organization to help kids and their families. They now call their event Sam & Jo Battling for Kids.

How amazing are these two?!

This event will be raising money for Penny’s battle against medulloblastoma. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor in March of this year. Penny is one of the strongest little girls you will meet. She loves life and everything that comes with it. Being outside with her family is her favorite thing to do. Her mom and dad, Sachi and Chad Thornley, and big brother, Maddox, are her world. If you would like to donate to Penny, you can do so through the link below.
